Immigration: Late 19th Century

A new wave of immigrants found themselves drawn to America.  These people included Irish, German, Italian, Chinese, Japanese, and Eastern Europeans who were seen by many "Nativist" groups as being un-American.  Immigrants found themselves in a land of opportunity but also one of struggle and discrimination.  Many groups pressured the government to restrict both the number of immigrants coming in, and the rights of immigrants who were already here.

What is the individual's role in society and how can an individual affect change?
How do historically marginalized people access power and affect change?
How did rights and opportunities change for individuals and groups?

Comparing past and present immigration in the U.S.
